[Poetry] Distant Memory

Far from home, my finger on the trigger,
Eyes on the enemy lines, beyond the frontier,
My heart grows fonder for you.
Do you think of me at all?
Ever wonder where I am, where I might be?
Do you spare a moment of thought for me?
I've been toiling here far away, so without a clue.

In these moments of agony, my heart grows fonder for you;
Your heartbeats are so distant now, I feel worn and blue;
Thought I had it all, till you gave me that moment of adieu.

Hand in hand, in firm grasp, we let our guard down,
We strolled and fancied, caring nothing of any smirk or frown,
So engrossed in each other, your smile was bliss for my heart.
Do you cherish those moments at all?
Ever wonder how I might be or am I the only one with woe?
Do you spare a moment of thought for me?
Or am I like an erased memory of some sort?

In these moments of agony, my heart grows fonder for you;
Your heartbeats are so distant now, I feel worn and blue;
Thought I had it all, till you gave me that moment of adieu.

Don't know who to trust here, thought I could trust you,
I had faith in somebody once, now faith remains only in a few,
Dust on my face, end near, oh to see those crimson cheeks again.
That innocent smile and blush, do you still have them?
Do you still break so easily to be consoled by somebody?
Have you broken anyone else's heart since?
Do you still behave so unbecoming of gentlewomen?

In these moments of agony, my heart grows fonder for you;
Your heartbeats are so distant now, I feel worn and blue;
Thought I had it all, till you gave me that moment of adieu.
